Environment, Energy, and Natural Resources. 48 5 Febru CUlTING THE DEFICIT BY SELLING FEDERAL POWER MARKETING ADMINISTRATIONS INTRODUCTION Among the most farsighted items in President Reagan's FY budget is the proposal to.

The Trump administration's $trillion fiscal year budget request revived for the fourth year in a row a proposal to sell the transmission assets of three power-marketing administrations, an idea denounced by public-power groups and likely to again receive a cold shoulder in Congress.

The DOE’s Power Marketing Administrations (PMAs) consist of four power entities that sell electricity that stems primarily from hydroelectric power. Formed in the early s, PMAs were set up to provide cheap electricity to rural areas, mostly small communities and farms.

PMAs originated as federal water projects currently operated by the Army Corps of Engineers. Improving Performance of Federal Permitting and Review of Infrastructure Projects; Section of the Energy Policy Act ; International Electricity Regulation.

As everyone knows, the Clinton administration has proposed selling marketing rights for three of the five PMAs for an estimated $ billion, although there is legitimate debate about whether that price is too low.

And the Senate, less than 48 hours ago by a vote ofpassed S. a bill to authorize the sale of the Alaska PMA.
