If these are the "best" Russian short stories (at least before ), I'm afraid I've discovered that I'm just not into Russian short stories. They are just too depressing and even the bits that were somewhat interesting weren't enough to make up for the overall tone. My favorite was the final in the collection: "The Outrage", by Aleksandr I 4/5().
